A healthy group thrives when everyone participates and supports the group's goals. Here are some ways you can give back to our hiking group!
Invite a friend to join you on one of our hikes or rambles. Post photos of your hiking adventures with Lake Oswego Hikers on social media. Tag City of Lake Oswego on Instagram or Facebook by typing "@cityoflakeoswego" (Instagram) or "City of Lake Oswego" (Facebook) in the comment section.
We are totally dependent on willing volunteers to plan, scout and lead our hikes and rambles. Interested, but not sure how to get started? Talk to a current hike or ramble leader, and offer to scout, assist or co-lead with them on a future hike or ramble. Come to our annual Leaders' Forum, usually held in February or March, where leadership policies and practices are reviewed, and past challenges and new ideas are discussed. If you are already a hike leader, consider inviting a newer hiker to co-lead with you.
Enhance the outdoor experience for yourself and others: Talk softly, silence cellphones, support the leader and sweep, take a small trash bag to pick up litter on the trail, pack out all trash including toilet paper, take only photos, leave only footprints.
We welcome your questions, comments, suggestions and new hike ideas. Our Steering Committee can put you in touch with someone who can respond to your inquiry. Send your email to lohikersrudder@gmail.com.
Trailkeepers of Oregon (TKO) was founded in 2007 to match volunteers and donations with trail maintenance projects the forest service is unable to manage with their limited resources. Check out their website: Trailkeepers of Oregon. Hikers are encouraged to sign up via this website to participate in an upcoming work party. (If you do, let them know you are from LO Hikers!) Across the river, the Washington Trails Association (WTA) has a long history (starting in 1966) of sponsoring trail maintenance work parties and advocating to protect access to hiking trails and lands. Check out their website: Washington Trails Association to volunteer or donate.
